Sessions will focus upon drawing and pastel techniques, studying line, color, shape, form, value, space and texture. This lays a firm foundation for all other visual arts processes.
Sessions will be developed around the styles and applications of various well known artists, studying some of the aspects of how these artists created their particular vernacular to communicate their ideas. Participants will be guided to apply studying the styles and techniques of these artists and apply some of this vernacular to their own created works.
Sessions will focus upon the applications of math in creating visual works of art. Participants will be expected to apply these mathematical concepts to their own visual creations.
Sessions will focus upon the art of calligraphy for personal handwriting, using joined italic. With the advent of writing upon digital devices to facilitate speed in recording information, legible handwriting is becoming more profitable. Add to that the facts that studies have shown that learning cursive not only improves retention and comprehension, it engages the brain on a deep level as students learn to join letters in a continuous flow. It also enhances fine motor dexterity (drawing skills) and gives children a better idea of how words work in combination. In other words, learning cursive increases literacy.
