Calligraphy & Handwriting Wednesday sessions are from 9:15 to 10:25 a.m., focuses upon the art of calligraphy for personal handwriting, using joined italic. With the advent of writing upon digital devices to facilitate speed in recording information, legible handwriting is becoming more profitable. Add to that the facts that studies have shown that learning cursive not only improves retention and comprehension, it engages the brain on a deep level as students learn to join letters in a continuous flow. It also enhances fine motor dexterity (drawing skills) and gives individuals a better idea of how letters and words work in combinations. Also, learning cursive increases literacy and promotes learning kinesthetically. The cost for these classes is $25 per session or $90 per 4 sessions if paid in advance. There will be additional costs for materials, which must be ordered ahead of time. So please sign up a couple of weeks in advance.

To discover and rediscover their capacity to tinker and make, participants will be encouraged to meaningfully explore actual objects and interactions with real things and real people. This program intends to stimulate the problem solving minds of participants, who wish to indulge in this process on an on-going basis. The cost for drop in sessions is $25 or $90 for 4 sessions paid in advance. There may be additional materials fees, depending upon the chosen project of the participants. Engage with Drawing is a class for ages 8 to adult and is held on Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. with Darlene Boyd as credentialed facilitator. Fees for this class are $25 per session or $90 per 4 sessions if paid in advance. This is a method which recognizes that the trained, practiced, stimulated brain is also more efficient at new learning. If we develop the building blocks of visual perception, visual spatial organization and visual discrimination by learning to draw, our brains cannot help but transfer these skills to such tasks as mathematics, reading and spelling, which require visual attention to detail as well as pattern and organization. This is a universal, systematic way to stimulate the normal human response of drawing, which speaks volumes without words.

"I am a sculptor, who also enjoys painting and drawing. I am not tied to any particular medium, and I thrive in experimenting and blending many materials. I am interested in forms, surfaces, visual metaphors and the emotional responses that my art work evokes. I particularly enjoy teaching art and using these processes both as forms as self-expression and as a means to heal oneself. "
